Any certification body active in the certification of
organic producers can apply for accreditation with the IOAS. Currently:

The 43 certification bodies accredited by the IOAS have
just over 150,000 registered organic operators based in 75 countries.
-
65% of the certification organisations work in more than
1 country.

On average the certification organisations have 14 full
time staff members (the range being from 2 to 75).

Of the 45 organic
certification organisations that IOAS work with, 14 are in Europe, 12 in
Asia-Pacific, 7 in USA, 6 in Latin America, 3 in the Middle East and 3
in Africa. 35 CBs are in the IFOAM
programme (34 accredited, 1 applicant), 29 in the
ISO Guide 65 programme (27
accredited, 2 applicants), 4 in GOTS programme (2 accredited and 2
applicants), 25 are under surveillance for
Canada and 32 under surveillance in the
European Recognition Programme.

Most certification organisations are non-profit, five
are for-profit and two government departments.
