Any certification body active in the certification of
organic producers can apply for accreditation with the IOAS. Currently:

The 43 certification bodies accredited by the IOAS have
just over 150,000 registered organic operators based in 75 countries.
-
65% of the certification organisations work in more than
1 country.
-
On average the certification organisations have 14 full
time staff members (the range being from 2 to 75).

Of the 53 organic
certification organisations that IOAS work with, 14 are in Europe, 14 in
Asia-Pacific, 7 in USA, 10 in Latin America, 4 in the Middle East and 4
in Africa. 33 CBs are in the IFOAM
programme (30 accredited, 2 applicants), 31 in the
ISO Guide 65 programme (27
accredited, 4 applicants), 7 in GOTS programme (6 accredited and 1
applicant), 25 are under surveillance for
Canada, 32 under surveillance in the
European Recognition Programme
and 3 in the Textile (Organic) Exchange programme (3 accredited).

Most certification organisations are non-profit, five
are for-profit and two government departments.
