Any certification body active in the certification of
organic producers can apply for accreditation with the IOAS. Currently:

The 39 certification bodies accredited by the IOAS have
just under 150,000 registered organic operators based in 75 countries.

65% of the certification organisations work in more than
1 country.

On average the certification organisations have 14 full
time staff members (the range being from 2 to 75).

Of the 44 organic
certification organisations that IOAS work with, 15 are in Europe, 11 in
Asia-Pacific, 7 in USA, 6 in Latin America, 3 in the Middle East and 3
in Africa. 39 CBs are in the IFOAM
programme (37 accredited, 2 applicants), 27 in the
ISO Guide 65 programme (22
accredited, 5 applicants), 25 are under surveillance for
Canada and 24 under surveillance in the
European Recognition Programme.

Most certification organisations are non-profit, five
are for-profit and two government departments.
