Any certification body active in the certification of
organic producers can apply for accreditation with the IOAS. Currently:

The 36 certification bodies accredited by the IOAS have
just under 150,000 registered organic operators based in 75 countries.

65% of the certification organisations work in more than
1 country.
-
On average the certification organisations have 14 full
time staff members (the range being from 2 to 75).

Of the 42 accredited and applicant bodies, 16 are based in Europe, 8 in Asia-Pacific, 6 in North America,
6 in South
America, 3 in the Middle East and 3 in Africa.

Most certification organisations are non-profit, five
are for-profit and two government departments.
