Ecoland

Ecoland was founded as a
farmers association in 1997 with a main aim of establishing structures for
processing and marketing. The aims of Ecoland are the conservation and
promotion of the agricultural landscape, protection of the environment and
the conservation of the natural life principles through an appropriate and
organically suitable agriculture.
Ecoland promotes science and
development and oversees the practical use of organic operating methods in
all fields of production of food and natural products. Ecoland also exists
to to inform the public about the nature and aims of organic farming and
promotes organic nutrition and environment-friendly behaviour.
Ecoland is a membership
organisation whose members elect a governing Board which is responsible for
the design and implementation of the certification system. In addition to
the Board, Ecoland have an Advisory Board providing for participation of a
range of stakeholders. A certification committee and responsible for
decision making and a standards committee sit to develop and maintain up to
date the Ecoland organic standards which are baed on the European Regulation
EC 2092/91. An ad hoc appeals committee sits as necessary to hear any
appeals.
Ecoland's activity is
currently limited to Germany covering certification areas of crop and
livestocfk production, wild harvest, beekeeping and processing and handling.
they are not currently engaged in the certification of input materials,
aquaculture or smallholder groups.
Farmers and producers
certified by Ecoland are authorised to use the Ecoland label on their
products.
Ecoland currently contracts all inspection work to
inspection bodies authorized to carry out inspection according to Council
Regulation EC 2092/91.
Ecoland were granted IFOAM Accreditation in February 2007.
