Organic wine sales increase

May 1, 2014

Nomisma’s Wine Monitor has once again presented data on organic wine. In 2012 (latest data available) Sales of organic wine increased: Large-scale retail indicates a +4% increase in volume over 2012 (compared to a 6.5% decline for the wine category as a whole). However, it is believed that large retailers are not the preferred sales channel for organic wines.

Cultivated organic vineyards have increased overall by 81% from 2003 – 2012. In Spain there is 81,000 hectares, +394% compared to 2003) and in France 65,000 hectares, +299%) and in Italy 57,000 hectares (+8.6% compared to 2011 and +81% compared to 2003).
