Assurance International - USA
Quality Assurance International is a private corporation developed specifically for the purpose of verifying the authenticity of food, fibre and other products that are organically grown, processed or handled under the management policy of sustainable agriculture.
QAI signed its IFOAM Accreditation contract at BioFach in February 2003 along with the sub-licensing agreement to allow compliant operators to use the IFOAM Seal on their product packaging.
Founded in 1989, QAI maintains 24 full-time staff members. Many of the senior management team members have been in the business of food production and food certification for over 15 years individually. Their combined knowledge of certification and production along with intimate relationships with key potential customers continues to create a solid client base and increase profitability.
QAI was acquired by NSF International in March 2004. NSF is a non-profit organisation providing a variety of services to the food industry including food safety audits, GMO audits and HACCP and ISO registrations.
QAI is led by a 6-person Senior Management Team and has set up an IFOAM Stakeholder Advisory Panel with representatives from various stakeholders.This Panel oversees QAI operations and permits the views of interested parties to be heard in the development of the programme.
QAI's senior management team members hold key positions on, or are strongly affiliated with, international committees involved in regulating the certification of organic foods stuffs.
Currently, QAI verifies the authenticity of organic products for more than 1500 operations, including producers, co-packers, warehouses, packing-houses, manufacturers and distributors and is one of the largest certifiers in the US.
QAI currently operates several regulatory level programmes in addition to its IFOAM Accredited programme, QAI Global, which facilitates trade between US and Japan and Europe. The QAI Global programme covers crop production, processing and handling and grower groups and is active in the USA, Canada and Paraguay.
